A Kashmiri Hindu temple dedicated to Surya (lord of the light), Martand Sun Temple is a 1200-year-old monument of worship constructed to honor the ancient ritual of worshipping the sun.

Although the temple was eviscerated by Islamic invader Sikander Bukhistan, a significant portion of the temple construction remains in the form of relics that are preserved by the local authorities and granted a site of national importance status by the Archaeological Survey of India.
