Also known amongst locals by the name of Dhungri temple, Hidimba Devi Temple is one of the major tourist attractions at the famous hill-station of Manali. The four-storied temple is situated inside a cedar forest called Dhungri Van Vihar. The cave temple is dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, wife of Bhima, a famous character in the Hindu mythological epic of Mahabharata.
The temple was established more than 500 years ago around a cave where Hidimbi Devi used to meditate. The construction of the temple involves a fascinating mixture of woodwork on the doorway, stoned walls, and a metal roof which is conical in shape.
