Another historic monastery located in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir, Basgo Monastery is located 40 km from Leh city center and it was established by the Namgyal dynasty around 400 years ago.

The Basgo Monastery has three temples in its complex- Chamba Maitreya (Maitreya on clay), Serzang Gompa (an image of Maitreya made with Copper) and Cham Chung Gompa (initially built as a Mosque but later transformed to Maitreya). Also, the Basgo Monastery has received the honor of being among the world's 100 most rare heritage sites in 2000 by World Heritage Foundation.
