By Road

As there are no direct air or rail links in Spiti, roadways is the primary and crucial lifeline of transportation in the Spiti Valley. Travelers can visit Spiti Valley via the Kinnaur-Shimla route and in the summers it is primarily reached through the Manali route via the Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass. Although the government has tried to reduce the travel time immensely with a 9 km tunnel in Rohtang, the winter months still give a treacherous road journey to visitors.

By Train

There are no direct railroad links to Spiti, which means that travelers will have to deboard at the closest railway station- Kalka (476 km) and then either take a bus from Shimla or hire a private taxi to reach the Spiti Valley.

By Flight

With no airports in Spiti Valley, the nearest airport lies 245 kms away in Bhuntar (near Kullu). However, since the airport in Bhuntar is a small one and doesn’t have flights coming from many destinations, it is advisable to land at the next nearest airport in Chandigarh (522 km) and then take a taxi or a bus to arrive in Spiti Valley.
