Founded over 1000 years ago, Tabo Monastery is one of the oldest and most divine Buddhist religious structures built in the Indo-Tibetan region. The magnificent Monastery complex has beautifully constructed nine temples, 23 chortens and a monk's chamber.

The Tabo Monastery gained popularity in 1996 when the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama celebrated its millennial anniversary. After the anniversary was visited by 26,000 people, the event turned the tourism spotlight on Tabo.
