As most of the tourist activity in the Spiti Valley takes place during the summer season, the best time to visit Spiti Valley in general is between the months of May and September when the temperature is the warmest, the landscape is lush green all around, all of the public transportation options are open, and both the routes coming into Spiti Valley (via Shimla and Rohtang Pass) are open and clear to go.

Temperature range in peak season: 6 degrees to 27 degrees celsius.

The lean season to visit Spiti comes in two parts-both coming on the either side of a 6-month long winter. The first lean season for travelers is between October and November when the temperature starts to drop. Travelers who visit Spiti with the intention of watching of snowfall can expect to see the landscape turn white without having to bear the cold brunt of the winters. The next lean season comes after the cold and harsh winters between the months of March and April when the snow starts to melt off the picturesque mountains.

The cold and harsh winter months of December and January prove to be a big challenge for people looking to travel to Spiti Valley. With temperatures dropping in some parts as low as -30 degrees, physical challenges such as insufficient oxygen and altitude sickness often take over people and provide a big challenge to their experience.
